Dunedin Hospital Helipad and Hospital Upgrade
Dunedin Hospital is the largest hospital in the southern part of the South Island of New Zealand, and is an important tertiary level care facility with a catchment area covering some of New Zealand's most spectacular and remote areas. Atop the Hospital is a challenging helipad, known for it's street overhang yielding great views of arriving and departing choppers to residents. This is a busy helipad with most seriously injured and critically ill patients from Southland, Fiordland, Queenstown, Central and Eastern Otago being transported to Dunedin for Tertiary level care, either from smaller hospitals or from the accident scene. Strong winds in the area make for a landing challenge.
Features: This mod adds a custom modeled helipad accurate to the real life one, complete with ramp, catchnetting, accurate lighting and markings, windsock, and pbr textured. Additional improvements to the hospital campus include addition of the Clinical Services Building missing in WU12, pedestrian overbridges and accurate ambulances (dependencies required).
Installation: Simply copy the NZDH-dunedin-hospital-heliport to your community folder and install dependencies are directed in respective readmes.
Known Bugs: Edge lighting - model will only show with an Objects LOD of 175 or higher, I'm not sure why this is and will look to rectify this. Helipad Alt - Due to a combination of the DEM used and the autogen hospital which the facility is built on the helipad alt is 185', NOT 150' as published in the AIP. Short of remodelling the entire Ward Block there isn't much I can do about it.
Future Plans: Will probably add NZDC Dunedin City Heliport located on the waterfront at some point and also add the new hospital construction site. Will probaly add some HeliMed scenarios too when I have some time so stay tuned. Any other requrests will look into.
Donations: Please donate what you think this is worth to your flightsim enjoyment to the Otago Southland Rescue Trust. The great team here run most of the ops off this helipad and are literal lifesavers in the region. They've helped my family after a holiday went wrong and I want to pay this foward. They're only partially government funded, so even a dollar will be appreciated. https://www.otagorescue.co.nz/support-us/donate
