Gorge River Airstrip, for MSFS
Real place with a fictitious ICAO code NZQE from default MSFS (I didn't attributed this code).
Version 1.2
--Description--
Gorge River is probably the most remote airstrip in NZ. Actually, this is the place where the Long family is living, known as being in the most remote location in NZ! They are 50km away from any road, on the wet Westland coast of South Island, between Haast and Milford Sound. The airstrip itself is very small, and the settlement is composed of an unique house plus a D.O.C hut. Don't hesitate to follow the adventures of Chris, the "boy from Gorge River" (youtube or http://www.gorgeriver.org) to know a bit more on this place and on the Longs.
--The scene--
The scene is a complete rebuilt of the airstrip as it barely exists in base MSFS.
I used several default and customs assets and many others from various libraries.
It has been developed using the Orbx NZ Mesh, so I can't guarantee its compatibility with the base mesh.
Work done:
- airstrip and parking place
- custom plants (from SBWorks library)
- custom building (DOC Hut)
- adjustments of vegetation (a lot of patches were missing in the area)
- reveal of the offshore rocks
- a bit of terraforming
Note: better rendered with Bijan 4-seasons vegetation or even better with REX Accuseason.
--What's new?--
v1.2
Recompiled with SU11 SDK.
v1.1
Fixed terraforming on beach.
v1.0
initial release
--Installation--
Please remove any previous version of this scenery you may have.
Just unzip and drop the "sbworks-airport-nzqe-gorgeriver" folder into your "Community" folder of MSFS.
It is more than strongly recommended to install this library:
- Dave's 3D people library (https://flightsim.to/file/5452/dave-s-3d-people-library)
- SBworks Library v1.4 or later
--Credits--
All work done by SBWorks (Stéphane Beilliard).
December 2022.
Impressive update. Incredibly fast. There's only a problem with the glass wall halfway down the runway. Still, a beautiful addition.

Hmm, This is problem with default scenery.

Just want to say thank you for your hard work even though it looks like the next world update will build over your work. You've provided the NZ flightsim community with an excellent resource enjoyed for several years. Best Regards and thanks.

Hey, thank you, it's very kind of you and much appreciated!
Yes the next WU12 will bring several improvements to NZ. And since it will bring NZ to a good level (I hope), especially for the DEM, I'm sure my next updates will be enjoyed by everyone the same ;)

Did you sold it to MSFS? Because they have the same airport for the new New Zealand World Update.

Hi! No, the Gorge River for the next update is from the folks of NZA simulations! Wait for it, you'll see it's way beyond what I proposed here ;)

Thanks ! This is great ! I suppose its going to get a tiny update? In SU11 I land R21 and midway to 65% down it just as I know the landing is successful the sim detects a crash as if I hit an object but I swear ...I didnt 😀 ...I was down to 46 knots or so braking.. oh well 😋

Hi! Thanks! Strange, I do not have this problem on my side. Anyway I propose a newly SU11-compiled version, see if it's better now for you.

What REX Accuseason Presets do you recommend for this NZ overall?

Hi. I'm using right now short trees, winter corresponding to this week (seasonal changes should be minimum anyway in this part of NZ). I may be wrong but according to my impression, the whole NZ is a single biome in REX Accuseason (which is a shame).

Did a quick trip from Milford Sound last night. Managed to land the Twin Otter after one flyover and a last second go-around. A little hairy but well worth it, beauty of a strip!

Thanks!
Great! With a Twotter, this is surely a challenge! IRL, I doubt the wings will not avoid scratches ;)

Gorgeous area! Unfortunately with the Orbx mesh I'm getting some funny mesh lumps at the southern end of the runway

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I can see the same odd things when I disable the "coastal fix" (https://fr.flightsim.to/file/7543/coastline-glitch-fix-mediterranean) I was using during development. Well, I'll release a fix quite soon!
