What I've provided here is complete for AIG AI Manager, IVAO MTL, IVAO X-CSL (Discontinued), Project Mega Pack, Liveries Mega Pack (Discontinued) and Default Aircraft (Including Premium). Screenshots were all taken LIVE on VATSIM! Hopefully this saves some of you the time of not having to make your own model matching rules.
If you use all these model matching rules combined, you will get 95% + model matching accuracy on VATSIM. You can test this for yourself by uploading these rules to VMRChecker.LucaPavan.dev (Created by ILPAV12), in the order priority recommended down below.
FAQ
What makes these model matching rules different?
This package comes with five different model matching rule sets for the following add-ons respectively: AIG AI Manager, IVAO MTL, IVAO X-CSL (Discontinued), Liveries Mega Pack (Discontinued) and Default Aircraft (Including Premium) in their entirety.
For AIG AI Manager, I've even included pre-2018 flight plans and liveries. However, you can still use this is if you chose not to install pre-2018 flight plans and liveries, you may just get an error if vPilot tries to use a rule which applies to one of those older liveries. However, vPilot will go through and fall back on one of the rules which apply to what you have installed to show the aircraft.
Also, I went through and made sure that all ICAO callsigns and ICAO aircraft types are correct. For liveries which do not belong to airlines with an ICAO code, such as business jets and aircraft belonging to hotels and manufacturing businesses, I used the registration number for the model matching rules.
Now, I am still human afterall, so there may be one or two errors. If you notice any, please let me know and I'll have it corrected. But generally speaking, these should all be accurate.
What version of these add-ons do these model matching rules apply to?
These model matching rules are as recent as:
- AIG AI Manager: February 25, 2023 (V1.1.1.10)
- IVAO MTL: February 25, 2023
- IVAO X-CSL: October 6, 2021 (Discontinued)
- Project Mega Pack: November 3, 2022
- Liveries Mega Pack: September 22, 2021 (Discontinued)
Can I use all model matching rules together?
Yes, you can.
In what order of priority should I set up these model matching rules?
The best way to setup these model matching rules in vPilot is in the following order:
- 1. AIG AI Manager.vmr
- 2. IVAO MTL.vmr
- 3. IVAO X-CSL.vmr
- 4. Project Mega Pack.vmr
- 5. Liveries Mega Pack.vmr
- 6. Default Aircraft.vmr
Can I rename the files?
Yes, you can. Feel free to rename the files to a naming convention that suits you. For example you can rename IVAO MTL.vmr to ModelMatchingErmagawd.vmr.
Will this be updated?
I will do my best to keep these rule sets updated. However, do not expect it to be updated as soon as AIG AI Manager or IVAO MTL gets updated. It may take a few days or even a few weeks between updates. But I do always try to keep my sim and add-ons up to date. So as long as I've updated it on my end, I will upload the new VMR files. If I haven't released an update yet, you can still update AIG AI Manager or IVAO MTL. The new models just won't be used by vPilot yet, unless you add them in yourself or I provide updated rules.
Prerequisites
- AIG AI Manager
Rather than making a whole new tutorial on how to install this, there's many tutorials already out there. The following by British Avgeek is pretty good. You can follow along right up to the 11:30 mark. The portion after that is what I've covered and am providing with this package, so you don't have to go through the tedious process of doing it.
If you want to install pre-2018 flight plans and liveries, skip the step at 3:12.
- IVAO MTL
- Download the IVAO MTL Installer from here.
- Extract the contents of the archive (.zip).
- Open the newly extracted "MTL_Installer" folder.
- Right click on "IVAO MTL Installer.exe" and click "Run as administrator".
- Ensure your MSFS root directory is correctly set. If not, click "BROWSE" to change it.
- Click "SELECT" to populate a list of IVAO MTL models available for download.
- Select all the ones you want to install, or click the checkbox at the very top to select all and click "INSTALL".
- Once installation is complete, click "REINDEX MTL".
- IVAO X-CSL
- Download the IVAO X-CSL from here.
- Extract the contents of the archive (.zip).
- Open the newly extracted ivao_x-csl folder and open the Community folder included inside.
- Copy the ivao_x-csl folder to your Community folder.
- Project Mega Pack
- Download the livery packs you'd like to use from here.
- Extract the contents of the archives (.zip) you downloaded.
- Open the newly extracted folders and copy the containing files to your Community folder.
- Liveries Mega Pack
This has unfortunately been discontinued. If you're like me who has it installed, then you can use the included .vmr file as a fallback just in case. If not, you can disregard it as these liveries will most likely stop working eventually anyway. And AIG AI Manager and IVAO MTL will just about cover everything.
Installation
- Create a folder wherever you prefer for your model matching rule sets. Personally, I use C:\Users\*Username*\Documents\vPilot Files.
- Copy the included .vmr files (or just the ones you want to use) from this package to your newly created folder.
- Launch vPilot.
- Click Settings.
- Click the + icon next to Model Matching (MSFS).
- Click Add Custom Rule Set(s)...
- Browse to your newly created folder and add all the .vmr files which you copied.
- Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to rearrange the order of priority as desired.
Helo mr. could you update the IVAO MTL VMR file please, there is bunch of new liveries in the libraries but i cant see they spawn to the airport or sometimes the file is corrupt. Thanks

Hi! Could you please add this into your config for IVAO_MTL? If 737NG is flying for CSA, then it's from Smartwings.
<ModelMatchRule CallsignPrefix="CSA" TypeCode="B738" ModelName="B738TVSWL//B738TVSWL2//B738TVSWL3" />
<ModelMatchRule CallsignPrefix="CSA" TypeCode="B737" ModelName="B737TVS" />
<ModelMatchRule CallsignPrefix="CSA" TypeCode="B739" ModelName="B739TVSWL" />

Fantastic work. I would suggest aliasing the Avro RJs to BAe 146s since they're nearly identical in model. I was at some English airport the other day and an RJ aliased to the generic plane for me.

Thanks I'll have a look into that.

Awesome, glad to know! Will be releasing an update again soon with the new liveries. Also to include the new Project Mega Pack now that they're back.

Hi. I am using IVAO MTL.vmr with downloaded IVAO MTL Lib and IVAO X-CSL.vmr with the old ivao_x-csl folder. I've been using csl since februrary and now I downloaded MTL from the catalog with intention to use those 2 together since they are not the same as textures but having those 2 I get a lot of msg in vPilot like: "failed to create aircraft xxx using model xxx . The model is corrupt or missing. " even that the model and texture are there. In the custom rules I have first IVAO MTL and then IVAO_X-CSL as the order of matching. Any ideea why I get those errors ?
Sorry for the late reply.
If I'm being honest, I'm not entirely sure. I deleted the IVAO X-CSL from my install since the new MTL said not to use the two together.
But I did think like you, and wanted to try copying it back to the folder afterwards to see what would happen, since it's just a folder with models and textures (or so I would think). And I don't really fly on IVAO. So, being on VATSIM, I would expect it to work since it's just referencing and displaying the model.
Unless some of the IVAO X-CSL files are now broken again? I'd have to copy it back to my install and test it out for myself as I haven't had this issue. I've only had it with Liveries Mega Pack, because as we know it's very old, discontinued and a lot of the textures no longer work.
Also, you're sure the errors in vPilot are as a result of the .vmr for IVAO MTL and IVAO X-CSL? Double check you don't have the other .vmr rules installed per chance, without actually having those models.

Hi team, aparently, all of the AIG AI mapping no longer works with V10 Beta ... takes you to CTD, according to MSFS forum, it needs a fix by Asobo ...

Using IVAO X-CSL.vmr but it includes tonns of invisible aircrafts
For example Title="B738WBERWL3" is loaded from IVAO_B738WLfa folder, according to vPilot .aircraft debug window, it is loaded "Active" and should be standing next to me, but nothing is there. After ignoring this vmr, it starts to use one of the default vmr file and there is a standing completly different aircraft of course, but at least something is there. 😊
2 years ago
That's strange. Sorry to hear about that but I haven't had any invisible aircraft. Do you have the latest IVAO models?
There was an issue in late 2021 when WU6 was released where it caused the IVAO models at the time to become invisible. Months after an official fix was released. Try redownloading the latest IVAO models via the link I provided in the description and replace your existing IVAO models with it.

I dono whats happening. I added the file but its like vpilot can not find the liveries through the vmr. It just gives alot of errors. Anyone know how to fix
2 years ago
Hey,
You would have to actually install the separate AI / aircraft model packages. The .vmr file is essentially a text document which contains rules that tell vPilot what callsigns and aircraft ICAO to associate with which aircraft models you have installed.
So, if you look at the Prerequisites section of the .txt file included or in the description of this page, I've listed all what you'd have to install to use these rules.

Just a heads up, but Norwegian Airlines have moved away from NAX as ICAO and gotten NOZ and NSZ instead. I think NAX still can be included as a few people still fly it on VATSIM, however adding NOZ and NSZ to the VMR would be awesome! 😊
Otherwise a great package and I never get issues with model matching! (except in cases outside your control, for example no model in the packages).

Aha Thanks for that! Will make the adjustment with the next version.
Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for your work.
The only problem I have, the tutorial you have pointed is not clear enough and installation doesn't have the same windows the guys says and shows. We cannot use it.

Hey, I had a look at the video and from what I can see, pretty much everything still matches the layout of AIG AI Manager today.
Maybe his explanation might be a bit here and there. At some point, maybe I'll make a short and concise tutorial on how to setup AIG AI Manager to get all the models needed without any fluff. Although I was trying to avoid doing that as there are so many AIG AI Manager videos already out there. Though to be fair, pretty much all of them are unnecessarily long.

How does this handle CRJ regional operators who don't use UAL/AAL/DAL as their ICAO callsign on VATSIM?
Currently, what's supported in AIG:
CRJ1: GGN, PFZ, RLU
CRJX: HOP, IBB, IBE and GIA
CRJ2: AXK, AZN, AZP, DAL, FBA, FDT, FFV, IAE, JZA, RLU, SSF, SWN, TGZ, UAL and XAI
CRJ7: AAL, DAL, HOP, IBX, LOT and UAL
CRJ9: AAL, ASL, AUA, HXA, DAL, DLH, IBE, IAN, JZA, LAA, LOT, RWD, SAS, TUX and UGD
IVAO X-CSL for MSFS unfortunately does not have any CRJ models at the moment.
For airlines that do not currently have liveries for certain aircraft, I was talking to ILPAV12 about the idea of creating a separate VMR file to go between Default Aircraft.vmr and everything else, which will act as a fallback. So, just as an example, if there are no AAL B737 but there are AAL A320, we can model match an AAL B737 to an AAL A320 for now, till AIG AI Manager or IVAO X-CSL introduces that model. But I'm not etirely sure yet if I'm going to go through with that, as that's an entirely separate project on its own.
As it stands, VPilot will do its best to model match using the rules provided by trying to meet the following criteria, in order:

Essential mod for those wanting to use AIG with vatsim. Well maintained, keeps pace with new AIG releases, and model matches very well. Highly recommended - keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words! New release dropping soon now that AIG is back online.
Also, another member pointed out some errors to me. They were caused by some of the default rule sets setup in Model Matching Magic, so got that resolved as well.

This package pretty much sums up everything we need to see on the virtual skies ! thanks for compyling the AIG, Ivao XCSL and the Livery Megapack. genius idea ! 😉
2 years ago
No problem man! Initially doing this yourself takes so much time I figured I'd just upload the VMR files to save others the headache. Especially after the already long AIG install. 😅
At the time I noticed the other VMR uploads by other users were also not being updated. But I think everyone else is back to updating theirs, which is good. Gives more options.
