With the positive response from the first version of the F22 Raptor, we wanted to continue this passion project and see if I could learn a few new skills and also have others experience a better F22 mod than the current bare bone, eyesore cockpit version.
Over the next few weeks / months I will be updating this project with newer textures, models and working internals in hopes to get a more true to life F22 out there for you all to enjoy.
Current list of things that work:
External - Flaps - Rudder - Elevator - Ailerons - Gears |
Internal - Yoke Forward, Backwards, Left & Right - Thrust control 1 and Thrust control 2 - Landing gear knob - Flap switch - Pedals - 3 Dashboards - Airspeed Indicator (Digital) - Artificial Horizon (Digital) - Cockpit glass interior and exterior reflections |
You can follow some of how I started to approach this cockpit build here at FlightSimSquadron.com
- Maiden test flight with a rocky start :)
https://youtu.be/HkXDWs1PxIk
Let me know what you think and also what internals should be brought in.
Skills and tools that I am learning on the way:
- Blender - Hard Surface Modelling, Texturing and Image Baking (This is an almighty challenge)
- Substance Painter - Texturing and making it look good (Industry leading, another almighty challenge)
- XML & C++ for the interior gauges (C++ makes my eyes already water)
Really hope you all like it and if you do, comment on what parts I should work on next

Pros:
Control surfaces and engines + the gear animations are all beautiful.
Speed is great.
Model looks great.
Cons:
Most of cockpit isn't functional
No afterburners
No lights
No functional switches
No functional avionic switches
Overall really great model, I thank you for taking your time and dedication for this project and learning how to make and code it. I appreciate it, and thank you for making it free! 😊

So far this looks really great, just one issue: I can't steer. Normal keyboard controls don't work as well as a joystick I own. How do I fix this?

How do you release the park break?

It should be whatever you mapped the default "Toggle Parking Brakes" to.

great fun! 😊 i really enjoyed climbing up to 60,000 feet and having that amazing view, then going back down and zooming around gibraltar super fast 😀
one "issue" i do have is that the glass of the cockpit is blurry. also the afterburner doesn't show up for me.
i have mad respect for the fact that you are teaching yourself how to work with all those programs and programming languages just to improve this free mod. thanks for your hard work, keep it up! 😊

Its a fun mod, but don't expect anything hyper realistic. One improvement I would recommend is the internal texture to the canopy to be removed. Flight sim is a beautiful game, and it just makes everything look meh. That being said, I can't wait to see what you do with this in the future! I'm a huge fanboy of the F22, and I will be keeping a close eye on this mod!
